In addition to including games when creating an assignment, you can also include assessments. An assessment consists of questions the students must answer as part of an assignment.
There are three assessment types that can be added to an assignment:
Teacher-Created Assessments – create your own assessment questions and add them to an assignment
Quick Assessments - assessment questions are selected randomly from the Legends of Learning question bank set up for the particular standard that you select.
Curated Assessments - for users with premium accounts, you can also populate assessments with questions you choose from the Legends of Learning question bank.
When creating your assignment, click the Add New button to add an assessment.
Teacher-Created Assessments
NOTE: Teachers using our BASIC account will only be able to select assessments tagged to the standard for which they are creating the assignment. Premium teachers can select assessments tagged to any standard.
From the content selection screen, click on Custom Assessment followed by Select This.
First, name your assessment.
Then, use the search bar to find and select the standard the assessment will be aligned to.
Click, Create to begin adding questions to your assessment.
Add questions to your assessment by writing them directly on the platform or importing them from a spreadsheet. Once your assessment is complete, select Add This.
Your assessment will now be visible in the assignment builder.
If you have previously written questions, you can bring that assessment into your new assignment by selecting the My Assessments option on the content selection screen and clicking Select This.
You will now see a library of the assessments you have previously created.
If you want to preview the questions in the assessment, click the name of the assessment.
To include the assessment in your assignment, click Add This. To go back to your assessment library, click Cancel.
To bypass the assessment preview, select the checkbox(es) from your assessment library. Then, click Add This.
The selected assessment(s) will now be visible in the assignment builder.
Quick Assessments
To add a randomly-populated assessment, click on Quick Assessment followed by Select This on the content selection screen.
Use the search bar to find the standard you want to assess students on.
Click on the standard to select it.
Next, use the arrows to adjust the number of questions. Then, click Add This.
The quick assessment will now be visible in the assignment builder.
Curated Assessments
If you have a Premium account, you can also use the Curated Assessment option.
From the content selection screen, click on Curated Assessment followed by Select This.
First, select the standard(s) you wish to assess. Search in the bar and/or expand the drop down menu to scroll through the list of standards.
After choosing the standard(s), questions will appear below. You can use additional filters to help you easily sort through the assessment items. Use the Clear button to reset the filters.
Main Concepts - Select a specific aspect, or aspects, of a standard for students to focus on.
Depth of Knowledge (DOK) - Select the rigor of the questions (DOK 1 = easiest, DOK 3 = most challenging).
Type - Format of questions (available formats vary by standard).
NOTE: If you select multiple main concepts, you can decide to filter questions using the AND/OR toggle.
As you look through the available questions, you can click the arrow to view the answer choices.
Click the checkboxes to select the assessment items. This will move them into the gray box on the right.
To set the order of questions for students, click the black dots in the question box to drag and drop them into your desired order.
You can opt to have students access the questions in a unique order by clicking the Random Order toggle on.
When you are done creating the curated assessment, click Add This.
The curated assessment is now visible in the assignment builder.
You can copy a curated assessment within the assignment builder. This is useful if you would like to use that same assessment pack as both a pre- and post-assessment. To do this, hover your mouse over the icon and click Duplicate.
From there, hover your mouse over the duplicated assessment. Click the black dots and drag the duplicated assessment pack to the front of the assignment.
NOTE:
After you assign your assignment and students begin play, all assessment questions must be answered before proceeding to the next game or question in the assignment. Students will be told whether their answers were correct.
You can differentiate your assignments by copying assignments and editing curated assessments for different class periods.
Student answers and performance for all assessment questions can be found on your assignment data page.
